QUOTE http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/85282 Pretty much as expected really, would've been pointless just doing one year of Rallying and then moving back into F1. 2011 he'll have some experience and hopefully lead to stronger, more consistent results. Personally if he continues to get better and better in Rallying, I'd like to see him compete in the series in the long run, really would love to see him win some rallies.
Kimi Raikkonen is set to commit to the World Rally Championship for a second season, reveals this week's AUTOSPORT. The 2007 Formula 1 world champion had been linked to a return to grand prix racing with Renault next year, but the Finn intends to stay in rallying for at least one more year. Raikkonen is believed to be keen for his relationship with Red Bull in the long term, opening the door for a possible F1 return wuth the energy drink firm's team in 2012. "I don't miss Formula 1 and I am enjoying what I am doing now," Raikkonen said at the Bulgarian round of the WRC last weekend. "I have still not decided what I am doing next year yet. Soon I have to decide, maybe it will be just after Rally Finland." A Red Bull source confirmed to AUTOSPORT that it is close to a deal with Raikkonen: "We are very happy with what Kimi has done this season. He is very good for the Red Bull brand and we are looking to extend his agreement into next year. I think this is likely." Citroen Racing director Olivier Quesnel is confident that he will retain Raikkonen in 2011. "I'm sure this will happen," he said. "For myself, he is really involved in rallying and he wants to succeed. I will be pleased if he will stay. he has done one year and he needs to do one more year to make sure." Sebastien Loeb agrees that it would benefit Raikkonen to stay for at least a second year in the WRC. "He should, because this year he is only learning," Loeb said. "He cannot be competitive this year and if he stops then he has lost this year. If he continues next year he will arrive on the rallies knowing where he is. "He has the notes, he can modify them, which is much easier than this year when he had to make them all from the start. He will know better the stages in his head. He can improve a lot from this year to next year. "Especially because we all change cars, so he will get in the new car and we will also. I'm sure he would have more chances to succeed next season." |

Kimi should not bother coming back to F1. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shrug.gif) There's two drivers that I think are better than him who are currently in F1... and why as a fan of the sport in general would you not want the world's best drivers racing each other?? Unless you knew he meant competition to a driver you'd rather see to win (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) |

Either he'd be up against a prima donna teammate, with all the aggro that entails, or he'll be in a shit car that can't win races. Let's look at Kimi's F1 options: McLaren? Been there done that, and it means having Hamilton as a team mate. Not very attractive. Plus McLaren seem happy with Button at the moment, so I don't see Kimi going back there. Ferrari? Been there done that, and Ferrari are now focused on Alonso, who doesn't like competition. Kimi hasn't won a WDC for Ferrari just to become Alonso's #2. Red Bull? Seems like a good idea, but Vettel doesn't seem to like competition either, and he's Marko's golden boy. Kimi would have the same problems Webber's having, IMO. Renault? Don't have a winning car ATM. That might change, but I wouldn't bet on it. Mercedes? With Schumacher there? Can't see it, myself, not until the old dog goes whining back into his kennel. Kimi and Michael never saw eye to eye. All the other teams have shit cars, so why would Kimi be interested in any of them? |

Yeah, difference is Kimi wouldn't go crying to the press over it. He'd just get on with it, probably exactly what Red Bull need plus Kimi and Vettel are quite good friends. I reckon Kimi could make a return to F1 with Red Bull in 2012 once Webber is gone but suspect he'll stick it out with rallying. |

No, a driver who just gets on with things and doesn't make a fuss. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) And the Vodka-Redbull advertising would be fantastic (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nod.gif) Probably the only sponsorship work Kimi would enjoy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

What's really clear is that it wasn't Kimi who was the problem at Ferrari last year, it was a shitbox car that they gave up developing mid-season. What has Alonso done that's oh so wonderful? Not a lot, certainly nothing more than what Kimi could've done. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/look.gif)

Massa beat Kimi after 2007, Alonso is comfortably quicker than Massa.

I do wonder though, how much is down to Alonso actually being that much quicker, or if its simply that Massa has lost some of his speed following his accident last year? I mean, it could well be that Kimi would have been as far ahead as Alonso is (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) |

Nor, sadly, do I think he ever will. |

I think Kimi will stay in the WRC if they'll let him.
He had another good points finish in Germany last weekend, and also registered his first ever overall stage win. He also is a different bloke, smiling and being quite chatty in interviews. I think he's loving it. |
